THOMPSON – Tom Carey III came to Thompson Speedway on an emotional mission.

On July 30 one of Carey’s most ardent supporters – longtime racer Rich Vasseur – passed away unexpectedly

“I said ‘I’m going to get [an American-Canadian Tour] win for Richie’” Carey said.

Mission accomplished, in dominating style.

Carey, of New Salem, Mass., led every lap and held off the charge of Ryan Kuhn out of the final corner to win the 75-lap American-Canadian Tour feature at the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway.

“Last time ACT came here we dominated wire-to-wire,” Carey said. “Did it again. … This is a big one. I want to dedicate this one to Richie Vasseur. I wouldn’t be racing if it wasn’t for Richie. I miss him like crazy. … I wish he was here right now to give me a big hug.”

Kuhn, of East Bridgewater, Mass., was second and Brandon Barker of Windham, Me. was third.

“That’s probably the best ACT car we’ve had in about four years now,” Kuhn said. “… What a run. What a car. We worked on this thing so hard.”
