Prayers going out to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Melissa Fifield.
Fifield announced on Facebook Thursday evening that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The post from Fifield read: “In the last month I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am fortunate to be working with some fantastic doctors and have the most supportive family and friends. While the next few months will be tough, I am very optimistic and motivated to come out of this healthy and get back behind the wheel! Thank you all for your support.”
Fifield has run full-time on the Whelen Modified Tour since 2014.
The Wakefield. N.H. native has started 13 of 15 Whelen Modified Tour events this season.
When Fifield missed the Whelen Modified Tour Winchester Fair at Monadnock Speedway on Sept 21 it ended a streak of 117 consecutive series events where she attempted to qualify. Fifield also missed the Sunoco World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway on Oct. 13.
Fifield returned to action in the Brushy Mountain Powersports 150 on Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway completing 125 of 150 laps in the event and finishing 18th.
Fifield has made 158 Whelen Modified Tour starts since 2014.

You got this girl.
Thoughts and prayers for you Melissa. Hope you have a speedy recovery. If you can compete against a bunch of testosterone fueled guys on the track, I’m sure you can beat this. You’ve got this, hope to see you back at the track soon.
Positive attitude goes a long way to defeating this ugly disease. I know as my Mrs. is a 5 yr. breast cancer survivor. You got this!
