STAFFORD – The Limited Late Model division featured the closest championship battle of five divisions at Stafford Speedway going into NAPA Championship night at the half-mile oval Friday.
Matt Clement made sure that even though the race for the title was tight, there would be no drama.
Clement, of Wethersfield, came into Friday’s final Limited Late Model division feature of the night holding a six-point lead at the top of the standings. Jeremy Lavoie and Devon Jencik sat tied for second in the standings.
Clement went out and won the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature in dominating fashion to clinch his first division title.
“[Connor Jencik] tried to hook me, Not surprised,” Clement said. “It was a lot of fun stinking up the show. I cannot believe it. I am speechless. … It took 10 years. I never thought this day would come.”
Matthew Winter II of Springfield, Vt. Was second and Devon Jencik of Canton third. Lavoie, of Windsor Locks was fourth.
Clement finished the season with three wins and 13 top-five’s and topped Devon Jencik by 10 points in the standings and Lavoie by 12 points.
Josh Morrison of Ashford led every lap on the way to his first career victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.
“It means a heck of a lot,” Morrison said. “We work so hard in the shop and all my guys here at the track, I just have to thank them. That’s really the reason why I’m here. … I was just lucky enough to get the handicap and start second. It was a good race either way. Good car.”
Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin was second and Tyler Chapman of Ellington third.
Chapman clinched the SK Light Modified championship on Sept. 27 with two events reamining.
