STAFFORD – It was the Travis & Travis show in the Street Stock division for the final race of the season Friday at Stafford Speedway.

Travis Hydar set a division record with his 11th victory of the season and Travis Downey used a fourth place finish to clinch his first division championship.

Hydar, of Woodbury, topped the 20-lap feature to take over sole possession of the division’s record for wins in one season.

It was the culmination of a season of setting new standards for Hydar. Early in this season Hydar got his 21st career Street Stock victory at Stafford to pass Kyle Casagrande at the top of the division’s all-time win list. Friday was his 30th career win in the division.

Before Friday Hydar had been tied with Jimmy Ward for the record for wins in a season with 10. Ward got his 10 victories in 1980.

Hydar will move to the Limited Late Model division in 2025 at Stafford.

“I really wanted to win tonight,” Hydar said. “This is my last full-time Street Stock race here at Stafford. We’re moving up next year to the Limited Late Model [divison] full-time so I really wanted to cap it off the way I should. Super stoked to be able to beat that single season record.”

Bert Ouellette of Ellington was second and Jason Raymond of Somers third.

Downey, of Barkhamstead, came into the night in second place in the division standings, 20 points behind Tyler Trott.

Trott suffered a right front flat under caution on lap 17 and ended up 16th. Downey finished fourth to edge Trott in the standings by four points. Downey finished the season with three wins, 16 top-five’s and 19 top-10’s.

“I can’t believe that this went down like this and I’m actually a champion,” Downey said. “This is phenomenal. I’m just speechless.”

I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR TYLER TROTT, YOU TALK ABOUT BAD LUCK. A FLAT TIRE COST HIM A CHAMPIONSHIP. THAT REALLY SUCKS. I KNOW HE’S NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IT’S HAPPENED TOO, BUT DAMN! THAT WAS THE WRONG TIME. I THINK STAFFORD SHOULD LOOK AT THE RULE, IF A CAR GETS A FLAT WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT AND JUST NEEDS A TIRE, MAYBE SHOULD LET THEM PUT A TIRE ON. IF GAMBACORTA COULDN’T PUT A TIRE ON. WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH HIM.
