Where There’s Smoke … ???

The old cliche goes, where there’s smoke there’s fire right?

Although in the world of the motorsports silly season, it seems like way more often than not billowing smoke too often doesn’t lead to any flames. Oh you gossipy racing folk … always with the new juicy story coming along.

That said, there’s all sorts of chatter emanating that there could be big changes coming with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Haydt-Yannone Racing team.

  1. Shaun, I appreciate all you’ve done to keep me well informed about local racing. But your RaceDayCT has become a waste of my time as everything is only a link to a pay site. Thanks again, but adios.

    • Ken,

First off my name is Shawn, not Shaun.

So in June we began increasing the amount of audio Quickcast entries (and other sorts of insider posts) published to the RaceDayCT Insider Page (Patreon.com/racedayct). The items on that page are available exclusively to subscribers who pay $5 a month for access to those posts. Now even with that increased amount of exclusive content on the RaceDayCT Insider page, we have not cut back at all on the amount of free editorial news, live race coverage, remote race coverage and opinion content that is available through the RaceDayCT.com website.

Since Aug. 1, 2024 there have been 377 items published on the RaceDayCT.com website. Of those 377 items, 51 were items linking to audio Quickcasts that are exclusive to RaceDayCT Insider Page subscribers. That means 326 of the items published at RaceDayCT.com from Aug. 1 to today were items that were free access editorial content.

So let’s look at the same time frame from last year, before the increased amount of content being published on the RaceDay Insider Page. Looking back, from Aug. 1, 2023 to Nov. 14, 2023 there were 338 items published on the RaceDayCT.com website. Of those 338 items, 14 were items linking to audio that was exclusive to RaceDayCT Insider Page subscribers. That means 324 of the items published at RaceDayCT.com from Aug. 1, 2023 to Nov. 14, 2023 were items that were free access editorial content.

So this year, from Aug. 1, 2024 to today there were 326 free access editorial items published on RaceDayCT. From Aug. 1, 2023 to Nov. 14, 2023 there were 324 free access editorial items published on RaceDayCT. There’s no less free access editorial content available now then there ever has been before.

I think this comment isn’t really about how much free content is available and more about the fact that you want to access the exclusive content, but you don’t want to pay for it. You obviously clicked on it hoping to access what it was and then you were so disappointed that you couldn’t access it that you took the time to write this comment. And I can understand that, some people think they deserve everything for free and get mad when they can’t have it for free. Side note: I’m picturing Veruca Salt from the movie Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when you can’t access something (I want it now!).

I genuinely and wholeheartedly appreciate every reader here who takes the time to click on stories on RaceDayCT.com, whether they are a subscriber to the Insider Page or not. That said, I’m not going to apologize for offering exclusively available to content to the people who want to help support making sure the continued freely available content offered by RaceDayCT.com lives on.

Lastly, this is not an airport, there’s no need to announce your departure.

  2. The $5 RaceDay Insider level when it first started is worth well under $4 in terms of todays purchasing power. Vociferously objecting to pocket change that when you think of it is the least a racing fan can do that reads the publication might not get quite the support you’d think.
