In 2024 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour veteran Justin Bonsignore made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut one to remember.

On June 22, 2024 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the four-time and reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion ran up front with the leaders for much of the Xfinity Series Sci-Apps 200 driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. He ended up involved in a late race restart skirmish and was forced to settle for a 22nd place finish.

In 2025 the Holtsville, N.Y. driver will get the chance once again to show what he can do in NASCAR’s second-tier series, and he’ll get the chance on multiple occasions.

Bonsignore announced Tuesday that he will compete in five events in 2025 for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series.

“When we had the opportunity to work with the Joe Gibbs Racing team at New Hampshire last year, it was a perfect pairing,” Bonsignore said. “As soon as that weekend was over, we started looking at options to run a larger schedule in 2025 and it all came together. When you work with a team like JGR, you know you’re going to have a car in contention to win every race you run. We’re looking forward to having some fun and chasing trophies.”

The slate of events Bonsignore will run for the team will be announced at a later date.

“We’re excited to have Justin back in our car in 2025,” said Steve de Souza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series and Development for JGR. “He has proven himself over and over again in the modifieds and he did a great job for us at New Hampshire with no track time before the race started. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do with more opportunities to adapt to the Xfinity cars and working with the same team multiple times this season.”

The 36-year old Bonsignore has 45 career Whelen Modified Tour victories, second only to Mike Stefanik (74 wins) on the division’s all-time win list. In addition to his 2024 series title, Bonsignore also won Whelen Modified Tour titles in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Comments

  1. He is too old to move up full time. This looks like pay to play.

  2. Too old to move up? Kind of insulting to anyone over 35. If you were talking cup, then maybe 36 could be considered too old, but there are older drivers out there. In an Xfinity car, he could have a successful career. He definitely proved himself at NH last year.
