Hahahaha….what a scammer this guy is
Rob,
What’s the scam?
Great investigative reporting Shawn …. You stayed on it and kept at it asking the RIGHT people the Right questions & the WALL of secrecy came tumbling down on the payouts & purses on the Tour.. You hit a HOME RUN as a JOURNALIST !!!!! Now we all know what the payouts are… Maybe it opened a few eyes of the Owners of Modifieds to see if they may run shows to get the BONUS for NEW TEAMS that havent raced in last 3 years out to grab some of that Money available to new TEAMS …!!
The tour emailed it out to everyone in December lol. And by the sounds of it, the figures will be updated sometime next week.
Joey Dennewitz, NASCAR Regional Managing Director is a pretty slick cat. On October 26 he did an Unmuffled Quickcast. I wouldn’t say it was adversarial but might have had an edge. Dennemitz having certain points he wanted to highlight and very good at doing it in his answers to questions. Don’t know if it was an availability issue that prevented the usual NASCAR representative Jimmy Wilson from appearing but it’s pretty clear Dennewitz better able to make NASCARS case well no matter what the question.
The only question that got a “good question” response from Dennewitz was the one about payout increases for obvious reasons. A key point that the goal of is to increase participation and they’re hoping more money will do that. Fan participation not addressed so much. A reference North Wilkesboro and the importance of having races in series sponsor Whelen Engineering’s regional base glanced at but otherwise nothing specific. I’m guessing they feel if more teams participate the likelihood of more fans coming to watch races increases.
Just a thought, if increased participation is the goal of NASCAR why not use every resource at their disposal? Whelen’s in Connecticut, RaceDayCT focuses primarily on the greater New England region that includes 10 Tour events, tour modifieds are an important class of race car in the region so why isn’t NASCAR a marketing partner of RaceDayCt?
The way it is now Mr. Courchesne directs a lot of barbs at NASCAR. All legit to a greater or lesser degree, maybe the power brokers at NASCAR read them and think why support a publication that’s ostensibly a marketing arm of their competitor the MMTTS and therefore at odds with their goals. Or perhaps they see our commentary as well, perceive this is more of a MMTTS fan base and feel it would be advertising with the wrong audience.
Mr. Courchesne to his credit did get the information on race payouts from teams apparently and was credited by one reader as doing strong investigative reporting. That’s so wrong on so many levels. Not the accuracy but why on earth isn’t RaceDayCt the first in line to get the information directly from NASCAR my Lord it’s a good thing let everyone know? NASCAR will pay lip service to the notion regions and local tracks are a core of their business model so why don’t they have an umbilical cord connecting them to the most important racing publication in the region?
As it stands the MMTTS has most favored status with RaceDayCt because they are a marketing partner, easy to communicate with, have a good product and that’s how it works. Information on the Tour provided more as a service to the readers punctuated with opinion pieces not generally kind to the series.
The NWMT is my favorite series but I’m not blind to their extensive faults. My view is if they care about fans, if they want to get increased participation from teams and more people to attend races or watch on FloRacing they need to throw advertising and marketing partner money at RaceDayCt then see if it makes a difference. If they are doing some advertising do more and develop strong lines of communication. That’s what responsible, well managed departments do. All the petty nonsense NASCAR engages in by doing the absolute minimum with RaceDayCt only increases the naysayer’s in this region. That and it denies the maximum exposure to current teams and discourages those that may consider racing in their events. The opposite of their stated goal of increased participation.
Just my thoughts…
Advertising on RaceDayCt or any other racing forum will do very little to increasing the fan base for the WMT.
Opportunities
Need an incentive for current fans to bring friends that don’t currently come to the races.
Partner with local schools with discounts.
Advertise & offer discounts at local and major retailers (office locations & stores)
Maybe some bigger teams could offer an open house (like a show & tell) for people that might be interested in joining a team. There’s a shortage of tire specialists, tire changers, jackmen, crew members etc.
Bundle packages for groups that would include entrance, burger/hot dog and a drink.
