Nickolas Hovey is making the most of his first foray into Modified racing at the iconic New Smyrna Speedway.
Hovey held off Max Handley on a green-white-checkered finish to win the 25-lap 602 Modified feature Wednesday at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway.
It was the second victory of the week in the division for Hovey.
“Definitely a lot more restarts than I wanted there at the end,” Hovey said. “Just did all I could to win this race. Just gotta thank Keith [Rocco] and all these guys. Last race we had to change a motor after practice and had a flat and still came back to finish sixth. This car is just phenomenal. … It’s awesome. This is the first time we’ve done anything like this, traveling this far away from home.”
New London-Waterford Speedbowl regular Brody Monahan came into Wednesday’s 100-lap Hoosier Pro Late Model feature sitting second in points.
Monahan spun while racing near the front of the field near the mid-point of Wednesday’s feature and ended up ninth.
The Hoosier Pro Late Model division has its sixth final event of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing on Thursday night.
