STAFFORD – Troy Talman had a breakout season in the SK Modified division at Stafford Speedway in 2024.

After chasing his first victory in the division for eight seasons, Talman got that first and two more with a three-win season last year.

Talman scored his third win of 2024 on Aug. 23.

Friday, nearly a year later, Talman finally found his way back to victory lane.

Talman, of Oxford, Mass., held off Keith Rocco over the closing laps to win the 40-lap SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.

“Longtime coming,” Talman said. “I knew it was going to happen. We freaking had a hell of a car all year. We just, we didn’t find victory lane. This or that happened and my own mistakes. We corrected those and we’re back in victory lane. This … car is pretty stout.”

Rocco, of Wallingford, was second and Jon Puleo of Branford third.

“We got in a little slump there the last few weeks,” Rocco said. “Definitely heading back in the right direction.”

Todd Owen went by Michael Gervais Jr. for the lead on lap four. Gervais fought back and regained the lead from Owen on lap six with Talman following to second. Rocco got under Owen for the third on lap seven.

On lap nine Talman used a diving move into turn three on Gervais and came off turn four with the lead. Rocco found the lane under Gervais on lap 11 to take over second.

By lap 20 Talman and Rocco had checked out from third place Gervais. Caution flew on lap 29 for the spinning car of Wesley Prucker.

On the restart Talman was able to keep Rocco at bay. Behind the leaders Owen and Gervais battled for third.

Talman and Rocco checked out over the final 10 laps.
