Chris Matthews continued to modifying the record book at Stafford Speedway Friday.
Matthews won the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.
It was the 25th career SK Light Modified victory at the track for Matthews, who is the division’s all-time winningest driver.
“We’re either up here or so far down there,” Matthews said. “… The thing was really good today. All day it seemed consistent and I was real happy with it. Shoutout to Chassis Pro.”
Nickolas Hovey of Chapin was second and Meghan Fuller of Auburn, Mass. third. Hovey got by Fuller for second on the final lap.
“Can never complain with a podium run,” Hovey said. “Gotta make up as many points as possible. … We’ve got two more races, we’re going to try to win both of them.”
Said Fuller: “I wasn’t really worried about a second or a third, I just didn’t want to go into the wall. My car was pretty tight tonight. I was trying everything, every groove. To come home with a third place finish running on really old tires, I’m not mad about it.”
Fuller went by Casey Vogt for lead on lap five. On lap six a Bob Charland spin off of turn four ultimately collected six other cars on the frontstretch.
Chris Matthews got by Fuller for the lead on lap nine.
“[Bob Charland], I don’t know what he’s doing,” said Matt Brewer, who was one of the drivers collected in the mess. “He should have stuck to bingo night tonight at the elderly home.”
