One of the most successful team owners in the pit area at Stafford Speedway over the last decade and a half is unexpectedly walking away from the sport.

Multi-time championship winning team owner Stu Fearn is shutting down operations of his Fearn Motorsports racing team, effective immediately.

Fearn, who has fielded full-time and part-time teams in various divisions since 2012 at Stafford Speedway told RaceDayCT exclusively Tuesday that he has made the decision to shut down his team.

“It’s been a lifelong passion,” Fearn said. “I’m a very competitive person, very technical and I love competing. But, the return on the investment, it’s diminishing returns over time. I’ve reached the point where it’s just, the moments of enjoyment are just not there as much as they need to be I guess versus the time commitment needed to perform at the level I want to perform at.”

During the 2025 season Fearn has fielded one full-time Late Model team at Stafford for his daughter Alexandra Fearn and a part-time Late Model teams with various drivers, including his son Ryan Fearn.

“I’m very proud of my accomplishments,” Stu Fearn said. “Four track championships across two divisions, 99 wins as as an owner. I’m proud of my accomplishments and both of my kids’ accomplishments. I wouldn’t really want to do it any other way. I paid a big price for it in time and commitment and resources, but, racing is a way of life. I’m very proud of what we accomplished as a team. I’m very happy with that.”

Stu Fearn began fielding a Late Model for his cousin Tom Fearn in the 2012 season at Stafford. The team went on to win Late Model championships at Stafford in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Tom Fearn scored 57 of his all-time division leading 65 Late Model victories driving for Stu Fearn and Fearn Motorsports from 2012 to 2023. Fearn Motorsports released Tom Fearn just before the the close of the 2023 season at Stafford.

Alexandra Fearn began racing at the track in 2013 for Fearn Motorsports in the Street Stock division. From 2014 to 2016 she recorded seven wins in the division. She moved up to the Limited Late Model division in 2017 and won the division’s Rookie of the Year title. She ran six full-time seasons in the division, recording 18 victories between 2017 and 2022. She had six wins in 2021 on the way to the Limited Late Model championship, becoming the second female driver in track history to win a division title at Stafford.

Alexandra Fearn moved to the Late Model division in 2023. On Sept. 6, 2024 she became the first female driver in track history to win a Late Model division event. Alexander Fearn currently sits sixth in the Late Model standings at Stafford.

With 26 wins across three divisions, Alexandra Fearn is the winningest female driver in Stafford Speedway history and sits tied for 31st on the track’s overall all-time win list.

“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me over the past 20 years,” said Alexandra Fearn, who spent seven seasons competing in the Wild Thing Kart Series at Stafford before joining the Street Stock division. “Whatever the future holds, it’s been an honor to race for my dad and I am so lucky we picked up some wins and a championship along the way. Thank you also to Amedeo, Dave, Bob, Matt, Joe Hamm, Don Wood and all of my family and friends.”

After seven years competing in the Wild Thing Kart Series, Ryan Fearn began racing a Street Stock at Stafford in 2013 for Fearn Motorsports. He ran three full-time seasons in the division from 2013-2016, recording five victories over that span. He moved up to the Limited Late Model division in 2017 and ran the division full-time again in 2018, recording seven wins in the division over two seasons. Ryan Fearn moved to the Late Model division in 2019 and recorded a win in his first season and won the division’s Rookie of the Year award. He ran a full-time in the Late Model again in 2020, scoring two wins that season. He has run part-time in the division since 2021 and scored his last victory in the division in 2023. Ryan Fearn has made three starts in the Late Model division this season.

  1. WOW!! So sorry that the first comment I’m able to make here in a while is one of sad surprise at this news, but I certainly get it. If racing was cheap to do, we’d have a lot more contestants. Years ago (early 2000’s) I remember my first Sizzler pit party at Stafford. I was walking around taking pictures and they insisted I come right over to the car and talk for a bit. Not taking anything away from the othere teams, but the Fearn folks were definitely the friendliest and nicest people I came into contact with that day! I’ve forgotten way more than I’d like to (DAMN, I hate getting old!) but that memory will never dissapear! Any ACT, PASS, or GSPSS teams looking for drivers? Some really good ones just hit the “available” list!!

Thank you for the kind comment Eddie. We are glad to hear we were able to help make a positive memory and experience for you at the track.
I should be clear, it’s not the financial cost that is a burden, it’s the time constraints and limited time resource that is the issue. I race what I can afford to and I always encourage everyone to do the same so it is not a burden. Also, I am in excellent health and not ill and stopping for any reason like that. I have gotten many phone calls asking if I was ok and that angle had never occurred to me so I just wanted to put that out there we are fine health wise and fiscally so thank you.
