Scott Cook, a longtime fixture as a competitor at multiple Connecticut short tracks for more than three decades, passed away Thursday.

Cook, of Oakdale, was 57 years old.

Cook had suffered from multiple health issues in recent years and recently had a serious cardiac episode.

Cook was a former Street Stock division champion (formerly Limited Sportsman division) at Thompson Speedway.

The Cook Brothers Racing team – with Scott driving and his brother Jimmy leading the crew – was a fixture for years at local racing venues

Over his 34-year career in local racing, Cook recorded Street Stock victories at Thompson and the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. He also had one career Late Model victory at Stafford Speedway and was the Late Model Rookie of the Year at Stafford in 2001.

Cook was also well known for his achievements locally in football. He was an all-state linebacker before graduating from Montville High School in 1986. He went on to play college football at Western Connecticut State University. After his playing days he spent decades involved in coaching at various high schools in Southeastern Connecticut, including a stint as head coach at St. Bernard High School in Montville.

Cook’s three children, Chase, Sydney and Peyton, were also involved in local racing endeavors in recent years.
