Coming into the 2026 racing season at Stafford Speedway, SK Light driver Nick Anglace had a total of 5 career feature wins, with 2 wins in 2021 and 3 wins last season. Anglace and the #10 UCONN team have taken the 2026 season by storm with Anglace already notching 5 wins this season to double his career total. Having already won the SK Light double down 40-lap feature this season, Anglace is looking to capture the 30-lap extra distance King of the Crate feature this Wednesday, July 15th as part of the GAF Roofing Modified Masters program.
“This is definitely a first for me,” said Anglace. “We found some speed last season and then coming into this year we’ve improved a little and things have been working out for us with 5 wins in 11 races so far. We won the 40-lapper earlier so that gives us some extra confidence and I always seem to run well in the longer races. Last year was an exception because we were trying to do 2 cars with the Light and the Open car and I don’t have the crew guys for that to work out and we struggled with both cars. We’re focused on the Light car this year and we’re hoping we can run just as well as we did in the 40-lapper. I think we expected to have 5 wins, but definitely not at the halfway point of the season with more races left to try to win. It’s been great so far and winning the King of the Crate race would be a great way to build the excitement for the rest of the year.”
The 2026 season for Anglace and the UCONN team has been a validation of all the time and effort that Anglace and his team have put into their #10 car. After only scoring two wins in their first six seasons of SK Light competition, Anglace has captured 8 checkered flags and counting with over half of the 2026 season left to go. The only thing that Anglace hasn’t yet accomplished is a 3-peat, which he has attempted twice this season with no success.
“We always knew that I could do it as a driver and the team could do it, it was just a matter of things working out the right way for us,” said Anglace. “You need to have a little bit of luck to not get caught up in a wreck and this past Friday, our luck turned the other way and we got into a wreck and had to go to the back and we were able to get back up to 16th at the finish. It seems like we can’t get 3-in-a-row done this year. The last time we tried for 3 in a row the clutch died and then last Friday we got caught up in a wreck so it seems like 3 in a row just isn’t meant for us this year. My father’s fabrication skills have been on full display this season because after we ended last season tearing the car up, we weren’t sure how good the car was going to be. Also I have to thank my Uncle Mark, my girlfriend Carley, my Mom, our tire bookkeeper Chloe, Frank, Pete from Valley Auto Machine, Adam Dion Realty, A1 Race Gear, and FK Rod Ends.”
For Anglace and the #10 team, their change in their winning fortunes coincides with their picking up UCONN as a primary sponsor prior to the start of the 2025 season. Together they’ve won 8 of their first 28 SK Light races together and Anglace says that having a sponsor like UCONN joining the team has made a huge difference.
“UCONN has been huge for us,” said Anglace. “Having UCONN on the car means that we’re all racing for something bigger. It’s not just me and my team anymore, you want to do good for the people who are supporting you and it’s a big confidence boost to show up with a name like UCONN on the car every week. They’ve been great supporters of ours this year and it’s great when I can text my guy Kyle after we win that we got another one and I’ve been able to do that 5 times so far this year.”
With the dominant season that Anglace and the #10 team have enjoyed this season, one might think that they’re running away with the lead in the championship standings. While Anglace holds the SK Light point lead going into the King of the Crate feature this Wednesday, his lead in the standings is only 14 points or 7 positions on the track over Chris Matthews, as Anglace chases after what would be his first career SK Light championship.
“We just need to keep on doing what we’ve been doing all year long,” said Anglace. “I’ve been saying all year long I don’t care about points and that’s been working out. If you’re not looking at points and you’re just trying to win races, each race is just another race and another opportunity to win and we’ve already had a great year. Even if we finish 36th every Friday for the rest of the season, we’ve had a great year. Of course I want to win the championship but we’ve had a great season.”
Anglace will look for his 6th win of 2026 this Wednesday, July 15th, which is GAF Roofing Modified Masters. The Monaco Modified Series will join Stafford’s SK Lights in action with Ryan Preece and Ryan Newman headlining the Monaco entry list of 30 cars.
