LOUDON, N.H. – The defender had the big speed Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Last July Bobby Santos III left the New Hampshire Motor Speedway July event for the Modified Tour walking away with the winner’s trophy.

Friday it was Santos, in his Tinio Motorsports entry, leading the way in practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Santos, of Franklin, Mass., toured the 1.058-mile oval with a fast lap of 28.966 seconds.

The two-hour practice session was the only practice time on track for the series in preparation for today’s 35-lap Whelen All-Star Showdown exhibition event and Saturday’s Andy Blacksmith 100 feature.

Reigning series champion Doug Coby of Milford was second fastest at 29.055 seconds.

Keith Rocco of Wallingford was third during the session with his primary car at 29.092 seconds. Rocco was also sixth fastest practicing the Our Motorsports entry that Todd Szegedy will race in the All-Star Showdown.
