STAFFORD – In the midst of a championship hunt, Albert Saunders doesn’t like to worry about points when he’s at Stafford Motor Speedway on race nights.

Friday night there was no worrying needed for the Stafford driver.

Saunders showed Friday that the easiest way to ensure not losing any of his lead in the standings is to win.

Saunders drove to victory in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the fifth victory of the season for Saunders.

“The car has been so good that I feel like as long as we show up to the track and do our job I think everything will be alright,” Saunders said.

Saunders, looking for his Limited Late Model championship at the track, extended his lead over Andrew Hayes in the standings from 16 to 20 points with two events remaining this season.

“I think about [the points] more during the week than I actually do when we’re here at the track,” Saunders said. “When we’re here it’s just kind of business as usual. We kind of just go through the paces. Once the green flag drops it just goes away. I just think about advancing through the field the best I can and not think about the points. I just want to go to the front and win the race.”

Paul Arute of Tolland was second and Hayes, of Charlton, Mass., was third.

“[Crew chief Barry Fluckiger] made a bunch of changes and the car was flying tonight,” Saunders said. “I don’t think anybody could have touched it. I’m glad to see that the race went mostly under green. The car was really good, eighth to first, great night.”
