WATERFORD – Sunday Doug Coby will be at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl looking to score the big bucks by winning the Dunleavy Truck & Trailer 100 Tour Type Modified event.

Saturday the Milford driver tried the set the tone for his weekend at the shoreline oval.

Coby held off Randy Cabral on a restart midway through the event and then drove away with victory in the 25-lap Northeastern Midget Association feature.

It was the second NEMA Midget victory of the season for Coby, who competes part-time in the division for Bertrand Motorsports. He won earlier this season at Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome.

“[Team owner Tim Bertrand] knows what he’s doing with these cars,” Coby said. “… I’m just really thankful to be able to drive this thing when I can. … It’s a great feeling to win at the Speedbowl.”

Randy Cabral of Plymouth was second and John Zych Jr. of Mendon, Mass. third.

Coby went to the lead past Paul Scally on lap two and checked out from the field before the caution flew on lap 12.

On the ensuing restart Cabral gave Coby a run for the top spot on the outside for two laps before Coby was able to leave him again.

Cabral won the 25-lap NEMA Lite feature.
