STAFFORD – After podium finish after podium finish this year, Stafford Speedway Limited Late Model driver was beginning to question just what it was going to take to get his first victory in the division.
“If I didn’t get a win in 2015 I would say I would have to look in the mirror and say ‘What the hell is going on here?’ excuse the language,” Arute said. “But we were just so fast every week and we couldn’t catch a break and we finally caught a break.”
Arute held off reigning division champion Andrew Hayes to get his first career victory in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.
“It feels great,” Arute said. “I’m just pumped to finally get it done. We’ve been trying for so long. I’ve been so close. I’ve been on the podium like five or six times this year. Finally got it done.”
Hayes, of Charlton, Mass., was second and David Arute of Tolland third.
“It feels great,” Paul Arute said. “We’ve been trying to get here for two years now. We’ve been fighting this car. I can’t thank my crew enough. … We finally got it figured out. The thing was on rails. It was so much fun to drive.
Trace Beyer of West Dover, Vt. won the 15-lap DARE Stock feature. Tyler Trott of East Hartford was second and Brandon Michael of Granville, Mass. third.
Mike Flynn of Hampden scored victory in the 20-lap Legends feature.
Devin O’Connell of Madison, who has already clinched the division championship, was second and Teddy Hodgdon IV of Danbury was third.
