Thompson Speedway is woven into the racing history of the family of Troy Talman.
In 2021 the Oxford, Mass. driver will head back to the historic facility looking to continue his family’s legacy of success at the track.
Talman will put a focus this year on competing with his family owned SK Modified in the six events at Thompson Speedway in 2021. Talman, who got his first SK Modified victory at Thompson Speedway in June 2017, returns to the track with longtime SK Modified crew chief Jimmy Fuller leading his operation.
“I want to put myself in the best situation to win and I think this is the right move,” Talman said on the latest edition of the Unmuffled podcast. “I know it won’t be easy. There’s a lot of great drivers and teams out there, but I think we’ll be up to the task.”
The partnership of American-Canadian Tour owner Cris Michaud and Pro All Stars Series owned Tom Mayberry will oversee the six event season this year at Thompson, which kicks off with Icebreaker weekend April 10-11.
“I think with the situation at Thompson the past few years, it wasn’t looking great,” Talman said. “… As a lifelong supporter there, I grew up going to Thompson Speedway watching my uncle race, Tom Tagg in the SK Modified. He had a very successful career there, 1990 champion. And my cousin Brian Tagg, I helped him out running the Thompson Modified and that’s kind of how I cut my teeth in racing. It’s great that they’re stepping up. It’s my favorite track and I would hate to see it run down like various speedways across the United States. There’s a lot of history there. I think at one point they called it the Indianapolis of the East. With Modifieds, the bread and butter is Thompson Speedway. I’m super thankful to Cris Michaud and Tom Mayberry for stepping up … it seems like they have a bright future and they have a really good plan.”
