Jimmy Blewett Wins Pole For Whelen Mod Tour Phoenix Communications 150 At Thompson

THOMPSON – It’s been the year of Tommy Baldwin Racing on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2022. 

Between a stable of three drivers, Tommy Baldwin Jr. owned cars have won four of the first 10 events on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. 

Doug Coby (two wins), Mike Christopher and Jimmy Blewett have guided Baldwin owned cars to victories in 2022 with the Whelen Modified Tour. 

Thursday evening at Thompson it was more of the Tommy Baldwin Racing domination in qualifying. 

Jimmy Blewett set fast time in qualifying to win the pole for Thursday’s Whelen Modified Tour Phoenix Communications 150 at Thompson Speedway. 

It was Blewett’s fourth career Whelen Modified Tour pole and first since 2013 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Blewett got his first career Whelen Modified Tour pole in 2006 at Thompson Speedway. 

Blewett won for Baldwin this year at Wall Stadium in Wall, N.J. on July 9.

Blewett toured the .625-mile oval with a fast lap of 19.073 seconds Thursday at Thompson. Blewett, of Howell, N.J., is winless in 40 career series starts at Thompson dating back to 2005. 

Ron Silk of Norwalk was second fastest in qualifying at 19.119 seconds. Craig Lutz of Miller Place, N.Y. was third at 19.133 seconds. 

Three-time series champion Justin Bonsignore was fourth in qualifying at 19.136 seconds. Bonsignore has 12 Whelen Modified Tour wins in 39 career starts at Thompson. His last win at the track came in the Sunoco World Series 150 in 2019. 

Six-time series champion Doug Coby, who led the way in practice, was fifth fastest in qualifying at 19.147 seconds. Coby has six career victories in 64 Whelen Modified Tour starts at Thompson dating back to 2002. His last victory at the track came in the Bud King of Beers 150 at Thompson on Aug. 14, 2019. 

Ronnie Williams, Austin Beers, Eric Godale, Timmy Solomito and Tommy Catalano rounded out the top-10 in qualifying for the 24-car field.
