Martin Truex Sr. was the father of former NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. and NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Ryan Truex.

The Truex Family released a statement Friday evening which read: “We are devastated by the loss of our father (Martin Truex Sr.). Simply put, he was our hero and a great man. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”

Martin Truex Sr. was a Mayetta, N.J. native who raced nine seasons on the former NASCAR Busch North Series.

Martin Truex Sr. made his Busch North Series debut in 1992 and raced regularly with the series from 1992 to 1999. Martin Truex Sr. had one Busch North Series victory, coming in the Auto Palace/Slick 50 150 on July 9, 1994 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

He ran one Busch North Series event in 2000, finishing fifth on May 13 in the Busch 125 at New Hampshire Motor. It was his final race with the series. Martin Truex Sr. made 135 Busch North Series starts and had 10 top-five finishes and 42 top-10’s and three poles. His best finish in the standings was a seventh place in 1994.

Martin Truex Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps on the Busch North Series, running the division regularly for the first time in 2000, when he scored his first series win. Martin Truex Jr. ultimately headed down south and went on to win Xfinity Series championships in 2004 and 2005. Martin Truex Jr. won a Cup Series 2017 and finished second in the series standings three times, amassing 34 victories over 693 series starts from 2004 to 2024. Ryan Truex is a five-time winner on the ARCA Menards East Series (formerly the Busch North Series) and three-time Xfinity Series winner.
