Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin recovered from a bad restart and used a last lap pass to win the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature.
John O’Sullivan of Salem was second and Gerard Giordano of Freeport, N,.Y. was third.
Hovey was out front when caution flew on lap 18. On the restart Hovey dropped from first to fourth, with O’Sullivan moving into the lead and Giordano moving to second.
Hovey quickly got back to third and passed Giordano for second on lap 22. On the final lap Hovey made a division moving under O’Sullivan to take the lead.
“I missed a shift,” Hovey said of the bad restart. “I did everything I could to get back through.”
Said O’Sullivan: “The car just wasn’t there. The handling really went away at the end of the race.”
Aaron Plemons of Uncasville scored victory in the 25-lap Street Stock feature.
Al Stone III of Durham was second and Larry Barnett of Moosup third.
Plemons inherited the lead after a scary wreck at the front on lap 19. Much of the event saw Corey Fanning and Ryan Waterman battling at the front of the lead. On lap 19 contact from Fanning sent Waterman very hard into the turn one wall. Fanning was parked by officials for the remainder of the event.
“Corey and Ryan, they always have those good battles but that one was a little rough,” Plemons said. “I was just biding my time and how about that? It’s my first win at Thompson, hopefully not my last. We’ve been kind of shaky here but we figured something out.”
Brian Tagg of Oxford, Mass. left the field far behind on the way to winning the 30-lap Late Model feature.
“I was not looking in my mirror,” Tagg said. “This car … tonight was very very good.”
Jake Johnson of Rehoboth, Mass. was second and Nick Lascuola of Brockton, Mass. third.
