
THOMPSON – The last time the NASCAR Modified Tour visited Thompson Speedway it was Ron Silk and his Haydt-Yannone Racing team doing the celebrating following the Icebreaker 150 at the historic .625-mile oval on April 16.
That speed from April that earned a checkered flag carried right over to practice Wednesday for Silk.
Silk led the way in practice for tonight’s NASCAR Modified Tour Thompson 150.
Tonight’s event marks the 750th series event since the division’s inception in 1985.
Silk had a fast time of 18.902 seconds (119.035 mph) during Wednesday’s practice.
Eric Berndt, making his second series start of the season, was second fastest at 18.988 seconds (118.496 mph). Berndt was 21st in the Icebreaker 150 in April.
Teddy Hodgdon IV, making his third start of the season, was third fastest at 19.005 seconds (118.390 mph). Hodgdon made starts previously this year at Thompson and North Wilkesboro.
Jacob Lutz (19.017 seconds, 118.315 mph) and Matt Swanson (19.038 seconds, 118.185 mph) rounded out the top five respectively in practice.
Berndt, Hogdon and Swanson are all participating in the special FloRacing Challenge mini-series for first-year teams in Thompson events.
Jake Johnson, Austin Beers, Stephen Kopcik, Justin Bonsignore and Chase Dowling rounded out the remainder of the top-10 respectively.
