On Friday at Wall Stadium, Max Zachem looked to be on his way to victory in a 100-lap Crate Modified feature before disaster struck.
With three laps remaining the lapped car of Dakota Kessler blocked Zachem’s line coming onto the frontstretch and Zachem ended up spinning out of the lead.
It only took about 24 hours for the Preston Modified racing veteran to get his Turkey Derby redemption on Saturday at Wall.
Zachem pulled away from the field over the closing laps to win the 150-lap Tour Type Modified feature at the 52nd Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium.
“There was a lot of hours in the shop this last week trying to get both of these cars ready to be on kill here,” Zachem said. “This is [Matt] Hirschman’s playground. Sorry to the Jersey guys, but it is. You know what, I’m so proud of the two race cars we brought here. I’ve also got to thank Dakota Kessler for the motivation here tonight for this thing. We’re going to have one hell of a party tonight.”
Zachem passed Timmy Solomito for the lead with 14 laps remaining and went unchallenged nearly the rest of the way.
“I love this race track,” Zachem said. “I hope the Jersey people are behind this place so we don’t lose it. Cheers to the [fans], you’ve got an awesome facility here. Cheers to the Krause family for all they’ve done to keep it alive. Hopefully we get the new regime here to keep it going.”
Solomito, of Islip, N.Y. was second and Trevor Catalano of Ontario, N.Y. third.
Matt Swanson of Acton, Mass. was fourth. Steven Reed of Jackson, N.J., who won the Crate Modifeid feature on Friday, was fifth.
It was the second showcase event victory of the season for Zachem. He won the NAPA SK 5K on Aug. 1 at Stafford Speedway.
“Winning the Turkey Derby, this is in the history books, I love it,” Zachem said.

Thankful the media blackout was lifted.
Bigorange61,
The media blackout was not lifted to my understanding.
I was being facetious
Max is kicking butt with both his SK and Open Modified – Nice to see winning purses above 5K
