ACT Champ Wayne Helliwell Jr. Has Thompson Speedway On His Radar For 2014 Season

Chasing a third consecutive American Canadian Tour championship isn’t in the works in 2014 for Dover, N.H. driver Wayne Helliwell Jr. and his Bruce Bernhardt Motorsports team.

But could chasing a Late Model track title at Thompson Speedway be in the works?

Helliwell announced Friday through a story on his website that he expects to be making some visits to Thompson Speedway in 2014. Though with Thompson’s minimal seven-event schedule this year, it’s not difficult to make a planned cameo into a full-fledged title chase.

“It’s all unknown right now,” read a statement from Helliwell about the team’s plans for 2014. “We have compiled all the schedules together and will choose as we go. I know there will be a lot of multi-race weekends. Plus we would like to venture to Thompson [Speedway] some as well, with most of their shows being mid-week.”

The story said Helliwell will open the season April 5-6 at the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway. It doesn’t make clear if he wil be competing in the Granite State Pro Stock Series that weekend at Thompson, in the Late Model division feature or in both.

According to the story on Helliwell’s site, Bernhardt has filed registrations with American Canadian Tour, the Pro All Stars Series North and South and the Granite State Pro Stock Series.

“We’re looking to expand on things,” Helliwell said. “We have no plans to stick with any one series this year. We have a new Pro Stock that is just about complete… We’ll be running all of the [Late Model and Pro Stock] traveling series at some point this year.”
