Waterford Speedbowl official Bob Gilot was recognized Saturday night as the INEX Racing US Legends Car national Inspector of the Year.
Gilot was presented the award during the INEX Racing US Legends Car national banquet Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Gilot oversees regular Wednesday and Saturday competition for the Legends car division at Waterford during the racing season.
— Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway regular and Whelen Modified Tour part-timer Timmy Solomito announced through Facebook recently that he will attempt to compete in the UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Solomito will drive a Wayne Anderson owned entry at the event in Daytona on Feb. 18.
— At least five local drivers are taking part in the Champion Spark Plug “Search for a Champion” contest.
Fifteen finalists will receive $5,000 in sponsorship dollars from Champion for the 2014 and one of the finalists will be awarded a grand prize sponsorship of $50,000.
The first round of voting ends Feb. 2. Grand prize voting runs from Feb. 21. to March 23, with the grand prize winner announced March 31.
