STAFFORD – Bobby Santos III led the field to checkered flag for the Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler on April 27, and he’ll be right back in that familiar spot in front Friday evening at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Santos, of Franklin, Mass., won the pole in qualifying Friday for tonight’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford Speedway.

It was the seventh pole at Stafford in Whelen Modified Tour action for Santos and his 14th career series pole overall.

Santos, the 2010 series champion, toured the half-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.327 seconds (98.216 mph). Six of his 11 series victories have come at Stafford, where he has made 21 Whelen Modified Tour starts.

“[Winning the pole] means a lot of for this race, because it’s possibly not a pit stop race,” Santos said. “Track position is important. I’m just excited.”

Doug Coby of Milford, the 2012 series champion, was second fastest in qualifying at 18.403 seconds (97.810 mph). Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y. was third fastest in qualifying (18.416 seconds, 97.741 mph).
