Whelen Modified Tour Riverhead 200 At Riverhead Raceway Cancelled

Whelen Modified TourThe four-race chase for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship has been cut to a three-race chase.

The Riverhead 200 scheduled for Saturday evening at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway was cancelled because of persistent showers in the area.

The event will not be made up.

It leaves three events to be run for the division for the 2014 season, with an ultra-tight battle near the top of the standings.

Doug Coby of Milford, the 2012 Whelen Modified Tour champion, has a four point lead over Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y.

Local regulations prohibit Riverhead Raceway from running events after the month of September, forcing NASCAR to cancel the race.

The series returns to action Sept. 20 for the F.W. Webb 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway then heads to Stafford Motor Speedway for the NAPA Fall Final on Sept. 28. The season finale is the Sunoco World Series 150 on Oct. 19.
