The moves of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Silly Season continued this week with news that Donny Lia will part ways with the Bob Garbarino owned Mystic Missile Racing team.

Speed51 reported that Lia, of Jericho, N.Y., has decided to leave the team.

Lia was not available for comment immediately on Tuesday.

Garbarino, of Mystic, would not confirm or deny that Lia was leaving his organization.

“I think any decision Donny makes needs to come from him,” Garbarino said.

Lia has won two Whelen Modified Tour championships driving for Garbarino, in 2007 and 2009. Lia left the team after the 2009 season but returned in 2012. He finished fourth in the standings for the team in 2012, third in 2013 and 11th in 2014. He had three top-fives and six top-10’s and two poles in 13 events in 2014.

Asked what 2015 will bring for his team, Garbarino was non-committal.

“It’s a long way off yet,” Garbarino said. “Obviously one of these days will be the time for me to get out, but I haven’t made that decision. If you rush into a decision a lot earlier than you had to you’ll probably find out that you didn’t need to do that.”
