Weather Has Sunoco World Series At Thompson Speedway In Chilly Holding Pattern

World Series 2014 logoTHOMPSON – The busiest day in local racing has been quite all that busy at Thompson Speedway.

As of 7 p.m. Saturday evening track officials were working on drying the track after the third rain delay of the day.

The most recent rains came during NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour qualifying in preparation for Sunday’s Sunoco World Series 150.

Eleven of 36 Whelen Modified Tour drivers on hand had been through time trials when the rain came, stopping the efforts to set the field for tomorrow’s event.

Track officials intend to finish time trials and then head into feature event racing with the Mini Stocks taking to the track first, followed by the Valenti Modified Racing Series and the remainder of the evening’s schedule.

Tommy Barrett Jr. of Millis, Mass. sits atop the speed charts in qualifying thus far in Whelen Modified Tour qualifying. Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. is second fastest and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.
