The ice was broken April 12 at Thompson Speedway. Spring sizzled to life on Sunday at Stafford Motor Speedway.
And this weekend we can say racing season has arrived in earnest.
Stafford Motor Speedway kicks off its weekly racing schedule with BFF Friday and the long awaited reopening of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl under new ownership and management takes place Saturday.

What: NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Racing Card
When: Friday
Schedule: 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model, 15-lap DARE Stock and 20-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 5:15 p.m. Qualifying: 6:15 Features: Immediately following qualifying.

Anyone purchasing a regular adult general admission ticket for $17.50 will get a second general admission ticket for free. … On Sunday, Rowan Pennink drove away from Glen Reen over the closing laps to win the first SK Modified feature of the season. Pennink had five victories in the division in 2014. … Michael Bennett won the season opening Late Model feature Sunday at Stafford. Other divisional winners at NAPA Spring Sizzler weekend were D.J. Schedule: 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 25-lap Street Stock, 25-lap Mini Stock, 25-lap SK Light Modified, 25-lap Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series and 20-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 3 p.m.; Qualifying: 5 p.m.; Features: 7 p.m.
More: The first event of the season at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. … Over the winter the track was acquired by Glastonbury businessman Bruce Bemer after he was the high bidder in a foreclosure auction last October. Former Speedbowl competitor Shawn Monahan is in his first season as the general manager of the facility. … Wallingford driver Keith Rocco is looking for his third consecutive SK Modified championship and third consecutive Late Model division championship in 2015 at the Speedbowl. … New champions are set to be crowned in the Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions in 2015. Josh Galvin, the champion of the Street Stock division in 2014, moves to the SK Light Modified division this season.
