The ice was broken April 12 at Thompson Speedway, now it’s time for the short track racing season in Connecticut to get its sizzle on.
Stafford Motor Speedway is set to come out of winter hibernation this weekend with the running of the NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler Saturday and Sunday.
The showcase event of the weekend is the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200 on Sunday.

Saturday: Practice and qualifying for all divisions. Features: 20-lap Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series, 20-lap Limited Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Legends and 15-lap DARE Stock, noon.
Sunday: Features: 200-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, noon.
More: The second of 15 events in 2015 for the Whelen Modified Tour. … The season kicked off on April 12 with the Icebreaker 150 won by reigning series champion Doug Coby. … Coby also won the pole for the season opening event and led 127 of 150 laps in the Icebreaker. … The Spring Sizzler is the first of four Whelen Modified Tour events at Stafford Speedway in 2015 and the second of nine Whelen Modified Tour events at state tracks this season. The division will return to Thompson three more times and make one stop at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. … Sunday’s event will mark the 115th for the Whelen Modified Tour at Stafford Speedway. … Bobby Santos III has won the last two Spring Sizzlers at Stafford. Ted Christopher is the only driver to win three consecutive Spring Sizzler, accomplishing the feat from 2008-2010. … Christopher begins defense of his 2014 SK Modified division championship at Stafford in Sunday’s 40-lap feature for that division.
