WATERFORD – Marc Panaroni fought off numerous challengers on the way to victory in the second 20-lap Mini Stock feature of the evening Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
Ray Christian III of Groton was second and Nate Taylor of Wauregan third.
With 10 laps remaining Panaroni and Wayne Burroughs Jr. set out on a side-by-side battle for the top spot that saw the lead get swapped four times before contact with three laps to go send left Burroughs with a flat right front tire.
From there Panaroni held on through to more restarts to secure the victory.
“The last couple laps the thing got really loose,” Panaroni said. “I think it was all the cautions, one after another after another. The thing was fantastic on the high side. Me and [Burroughs] had a great battle. He got into the left side of me. I don’t know what happened, if somebody got into him. But it was a great battle.”
Doug Curry of Groton held off Larry Loomis of Moosup to win the first 25-lap Mini Stock feature of the night. Sean Caron of East Hampton was third.
Al Stone III of Durham narrowly avoided a spinning car in turn four on the final lap and won the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature.
“I don’t know what happened, but I’m pretty sure I need to go change my drawers after that,” Stone said.
Jack Aqualine of Oakdale was second and Corey Coates of Ledyard third.
Paul Buzel of Trumbull scored the win in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature.
Corey Barry of Plainfield was second and Glenn Griswold of Vernon third.
