STAFFORD – David Arute held off the twin brothers Albert Saunders and Cliff Saunders over the closing laps to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the second victory of the season for Arute, of Tolland.

“The beginning there, it took us a while to get to three laps,” It’s just kind of crazy at the start. All the fast cars start in the back, but that’s how we get good racing. My crew worked hard for this one. It’s our second win of the year, that’s great. It’s been a long beginning of the year. I think we’re on a roll now.”

Albert Saunders of Stafford ended up second and Cliff Saunders of Stafford was third.

DJ Burnham of East Hartford held off Tony Membrino Jr. over the closing laps to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.

It was the first victory for Burnham since the opening event of the season at Stafford.

“We’ve had really fast racecars all year, we’ve just had really crappy luck,” Burnham said “… My brother came up with this setup during the week and this thing was unreal. Anybody could have drove this thing to victory tonight. The thing was gone. Everytime I get out front there seems to be a million cautions and red flags and everything. They make it interesting for me and it sure was. I was sweating it there, I’m not going to lie.”

Membrino, of Plantsville, was second and Bob Charland of Stafford third.

Corey DiMatteo of Farmington held off a charging Devin O’Connell of Madison to win the 20-lap Legends feature.

Teddy Hodgon IV of Danbury was third.

  1. can someone explain how he was able to line back up in 2nd place on the restart after he got into the left rear of the #87 and continued to hammer the gas all the way through turns one and two until he finally spun the #87 and then had to stop because he couldn’t push the 87 anymore and both cars came to a stop coming out of turn 2?????? how was Arute NOT an “accident car” when he caused it AND had to stop on the track because of it? then when he was leading on the white flag lap, with a spun car sitting on the apron in turn 4 the kept it green…… would have been a caution if anyone else was leading
