STAFFORD – Donny Lia quest to return to victory lane with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Stafford Motor Speedway began positively Friday afternoon for the Jericho, N.Y. driver.
Lia led the way in practice Friday afternoon in preparation for tonight’s Call Before You Dig 150 at Stafford Speedway.
Lia, who is looking for his first win of the season, got his last victory at Stafford in the Fall Final 150 at the track on Sept. 29, 2013.
Lia toured the half-mile oval at Stafford with a fast lap of 18.463 seconds (97.492 mph).
Ryan Preece of Berlin, the winner in the last Whelen Modified Tour event at Stafford on June 5, was second fastest during the practice session with a fast lap of 18.487 seconds (97.366 mph).
Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. was third fastest (18.496 seconds, 97.318 mph).
Timmy Solomito of Islip, N.Y. was fourth fastest (18.541 seconds, 97.082 mph) and Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y. was fifth fastest (18.613 seconds, 96.707 mph).
