Chasing a championship in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway has East Hartford’s Joey Ferrigno a little stressed.

Saturday he’ll get some stress relief.

Ferrigno will step away from his SK Light for a night and jump in a Limited Sportsman car for that division’s feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Ferrigno has a division leading four victories in the SK Light Modified division this year at Stafford and went into Friday’s event at the track third in the standings, 20 points behind division leader Stephen Kopcik.

“I want to go and have some fun,” Ferrigno said. “This points racing, everyone talking ‘Point, points, points’ is getting stressful. With that I can just go and race and it doesn’t matter what I do.”

Ferrigno is no stranger to full-bodied cars. He was the 2005 DARE Stock division champion at Stafford and boasts of victories in both the DARE Stock and Limited Late Model divisions at Stafford.

Ferrigno will run a backup Limited Sportsman car out of the stable of former division champion Al Stone III.

“You get to rub doors a little bit,” Ferrigno said. “They’re equally matched cars and it doesn’t seem like anybody is killing anybody. I know they’re fun to watch.”
