STAFFORD – In a dogfight battle to the checkered, Ryan Preece snapped, but his bite wasn’t big enough to stop Rowan Pennink.

Pennink held off Preece’s final corner charges to win the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the division leading sixth win in 16 events this year for Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.

Preece, of Berlin, held on for second and Woody Pitkat of Stafford was third.

This team has been unbelievable. The end of last year and all through this season. I couldn’t be prouder of everybody.

After a swapping battle for the top spot for a number of laps, Pennink went by Preece on lap 24 and never trailed again.

But Preece made a diving move into turn three on the final lap that had Pennink holding on.

“I made a little block move there and he still got underneath me,” Pennink said. “It was a dogfight right to the end and I was able to drag race him to the finish line. It was a good race.”

Of the last lap move Preece said: “That was pretty much what we had right there. We’ve got to work on it a little bit. I’m real happy. Mike Paquette gives me a great car every work. We’re working on it.”
