NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Ryan Preece was playing amateur weatherman Friday afternoon in Dover, Del.
The Berlin driver had been scheduled to run in the K&N Pro Series East season finale Friday at Dover International Speedway driving for Old Lyme car owner Ted Marsh, but because of weather issues, the event was rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Preece was holding out in Dover hoping the forecast for the Stafford area would become bad enough that he could have a window to possibly run Saturday at Dover.
With two events remaining for the Whelen Modified Tour this year, Preece is second in the standings, eight points behind Woody Pitkat of Stafford.
Practice for Sunday’s Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Fall Final 150 at Stafford is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with qualifying scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
“I don’t want to leave now and have it rain at Stafford and find out I could have run the [K&N Pro Series East] race and I’m already home,” Preece said just before 3 p.m. Friday. “But at the same time, it could rain here for the East race. I’m just trying to hold out as long as possible. But obviously I have to be up north with the [Whelen Modified Tour]. I’ll be there.”
Stafford Motor Speedway officials announced Friday that their schedule for the weekend is solid and they expect weather issues to be cleared by Saturday morning.
Preece is looking to make his second career K&N Pro Series East start. He made his division debut on in the UNOH 100 at Richmond International Raceway on Sept. 10. He finished 14th in the rain shortened event.
