STAFFORD – It was a good day gone bad last Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Ryan Preece after a last lap spin sent him from the lead to 19th place in the F.W. Webb 100 in Loudon.

A week later Preece was back at the front on his return to action in his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour car.

Preece, of Berlin, led the way in practice Saturday for Sunday’s NAPA Fall Final 150 at Stafford.

Practice at the track was delayed three hours because of lingering morning rain.

Preece toured the half-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.271 seconds (98.517 mph).

Preece goes into Sunday’s penultimate Whelen Modified Tour event of 2015 sitting second in the standings, eight points behind Woody Pitkat.

Coby, who tapped Preece out of the lead at Loudon and went on to victory last week, was second in practice at 18.285 seconds (98.441 mph). Coby, of Milford, sits third in the standings, 11 points behind Pitkat.

Ted Christopher of Plainville was third fastest during the 1-hour practice session at 18.312 seconds (98.296 mph).

Pitkat was sixth fastest during the practice.

Qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Stafford.
