NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Heading To Oswego Speedway In 2016

Oswego speedway logoMultiple sources close to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour have confirmed that the series will head to Oswego Speedway in Oswego, N.Y. as part of its 2016 schedule.

The new event at Oswego will likely run between Sept. 2-4, 2016.

Officials from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour could not confirm the addition of the event to the schedule. Attempt to reach management at Oswego Speedway were unsuccessful.

The Oswego event will be one of two new events added to the Whelen Modified Tour schedule for the 2016 season. Management at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway recently announced they would host the series on Sept. 10, 2016.

The series will not lose any events that were on the 2015 schedule, meaning there will be 17 points-paying events in 2016 along with the return of the exhibition event for the series in July at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will run in state four times each at Stafford Motor Speedway and Thompson Speedway and once at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl in 2016. The series will have two points events each at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway. The series will also visit Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has run eight events at the .625-mile Oswego Speedway, four in 1988 and four in 1989. Tony Hirschman (three wins), Brian Ross (two wins), Mike McLaughlin, George Kent and Mike Stefanik had wins at the track.

  1. Big race weekend. Supers “Classic” weekend and SDS at brand new CNYRP on 9/5 outside Brewerton.

  2. Pretty sweet that they will be part of classic weekend again, hope they pay at least 20k to the winner and draw 40 cars

  3. Crazy in NY says

I hope they put traction compound on the outside or something. The ROC races have been snoozers there lately.

  4. Barry Westman says

Let’s get Nascar and the ROC mod tour working together, and you’ have big car counts for both shows, both on Classic weekend and shortly after for the historic Race of Champions at Oswego. Hope Nascar hasn’t put a conflicting race for the ROC event?
