Saturday Ryan Preece begins his first full-time season as a driver on NASCAR’s national tier XFINITY Series.

But before hitting the big track in Daytona Saturday with his new XFINITY Series team, Preece was back to the place that has helped carry him to the national stage.

Back to victory lane in a Modified.

Preece, of Berlin, won Thursday’s 35-lap Tour Type Modified feature at the World Series of Asphalt Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.

According to The Chrome Horn, Preece passed Ron Silk for the lead on lap eight and never trailed again.

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. was second and JR Bertuccio of Centereach, N.Y. third.

It was the first victory of the World Series for Preece, who had finished second in the first two events of the week, to Silk on Tuesday and Eric Goodale on Wednesday.

  1. The 6 car is back in victory lane. I’m shocked !!! What a turnaround after such a horrendous start !!! It’s a miracle !!!!

I guess that the sky isn’t falling after all. Well done Ryan and the 6 team. Great speedweeks showing.

  2. Jeff Clewley says

Great job at New Smyrna Beach and good luck in your infinity series racing this year I’ll be watching for you.
And if you need anyone to fill in for you while your running the infinity car I’m available.. Lol good luck and great job

  3. Ryan must be feeling good after last night. Fourth fastest in 2nd round practice in the Xfinity car. Great job.

  4. I am pulling for Ryan also, however, the speed is a little misleading. The other top 5 were, David Star, Brandon Jones, Nemecheck, Benny Gordon, and Daniel Suarez. (Not exactly the best of the field) This group of six were the only cars drafting, and working together. No one else in this session, was drafting. (That makes a huge difference in speed. After time trials, which just ended, Ryan starts 31st out of 40.
