Daily Grind: Pitkat To Miss Winchester 200; Coby Unclear For MTS Event; Season Ticket Special At Thompson

RaceDayCT Daily Grind LogoWoody Pitkat is known across the Northeast as one of the busiest drivers in Modified racing.

Last year the Stafford driver won the Valenti Modified Racing Series title, went to the final NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event of the season in contention for the series title, won an SK Modified champion at Thompson Speedway and competed regularly in an SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway.

If there’s a Modified race going on in the Northeast there’s a pretty likely chance Pitkat will be there. And usually by his side is his daughter Ella.

Though when it comes to the recently announced $15,000 to win Winchester 200 inaugural Modified Touring Series event on May 21 at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H., Pitkat won’t be in competition.

Instead of daughter cheering on dad, it will be the other way around that day.

Pitkat said the owners of the Valenti Modified Racing Series team he competes for want to race in the event, but he is sticking to a commitment he made to his daughter that day.

“Those guys want to go but I’m not going because I already have something that day,” Pitkat said. “I have my daughter’s dance recital. I’d love to do it, but when you run 50 or 60 races a year you have to be there for family. I have to do that for her. Unfortunately it was a race that was added to the schedule. I missed her recital last year because I went to a race and this year I made sure I planned on going for her.”

Coby Unclear For Monadnock

Reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby of Milford said Wednesday he is unclear about his possible plans to compete in the Winchester 200.

“ No idea, haven’t talked to anyone,” Coby said.
