Donny Lia Leads The Way In Second Whelen Mod Tour Icebreaker 150 Practice At Thompson

THOMPSON – Two-time series champion Donny Lia paced the participants in the second NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice session Saturday afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway.

Lia, of Jericho, N.Y., turned a fast lap of 18.775 seconds (119.840 mph) during the second 45-minute practice session of the day.

The teams of the Whelen Modified Tour will set the field with time trials later Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Preece of Berlin, who got back to Thompson Speedway after competing in Friday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series at Texas Motor Speeway, was second fastest in the second practice at 18.792 seconds (119.732 mph).

Jimmy Blewett of Howell, N.J., making his first appearance this weekend behind the wheel of the iconic Bob Garbarino owned Mystic Missile No. 4 car, was third fastest in the second session at 18.819 seconds (119.560 mph).

Timmy Solomito of Islip, N.Y. was fourth fastest (18.822 seconds, 119.541 mph). Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa,, who led the way in the first practice session of the day, was fifth in the second session (18.828 seconds, 119.503 mph).

Ron Silk of Norwalk, two-time defending series champion Doug Coby of Milford, David Sapienza of Riverhead, N.Y., Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y. and Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. rounded out the top-10 in practice respectively.
