WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park is set to host the season-opening NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event for the 15th consecutive season.
The .625-mile Connecticut oval has become Doug Coby’s personal playground, and the two-time defending tour titlist has a number of historical opportunities lined up for Sunday’s Icebreaker 150.
Following a season sweep at Thompson a year ago, Coby can become the first driver in 32 years of tour competition to win five consecutive races there. He’s also looking to become the first driver in 19 years to win four straight overall races.

NASCAR WHELEN ALL-AMERICAN SERIES
• Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, one of the oldest tracks in the United States, will take the green flag with its 42nd Annual Icebreaker opening weekend. In addition to hosting the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opening race, the .625-mile oval will hold a full slate of Whelen All-American Series divisions headlined by a 30-lap Sunoco Modified feature on Sunday.
It’s a season of racing for 2nd place.
I think this is the season the tour’s most popular driver challenges for the championship and gets that breakthrough win.
