THOMPSON – Speed is something there has been no shortage of for Doug Coby at Thompson Speedway in a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour car of late.

And that was once again the case Wednesday when the series hit the track to start the day in preparation for tonight’s Thompson 125.

Coby, the reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion, led the way in practice Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

Coby toured the .625-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.949 seconds.

Coby, of Milford, won the pole for the season opening Icebreaker 150 at Thompson and went on to finish fourth in the event on April 10. He also won the pole in the season finale last year at Thompson and went on to win that event.

Brendan Bock of Franklin Square, N.Y. was second fastest in practice at 19.009 seconds.

Ryan Preece of Berlin was second fastest during the one-hour practice session Wednesday with a fast lap of 19.035 seconds.

Woody Pitkat of Stafford and Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass., rounded out the top five in practice respectively.
