WATERFORD – Avoiding the carnage was the mantra of the second SK Modified feature of the night Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

And accomplishing that feat best was Keith Rocco.

Rocco, of Wallingford, went to the front early and stayed there, rolling to victory in the second 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Tom Abele Jr. of Norwich was second and Matt Galko of Meriden third.

It was the sixth SK Modified victory of the season for Rocco. He also won the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at the Speedbowl.

Rocco went by Rob Janovic Jr. for the lead with 26 laps remaining and never trailed again. Though Janovic did give him a test on a restart with 23 laps remaining.

“Rob raced me so clean there,” Rocco said. “I was able to get by him on the top and I thought, I might as well just take the top, that worked out good and it almost backfired on me.”

The race was delayed for about 40 minutes after the car of Adam Gada flipped onto the frontstretch wall and into the catchfence. Gada walked away from the scary crash.
