STAFFORD – Finding speed at Stafford Motor Speedway hasn’t been an issue in 2016 for reigning NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby.

The Milford driver won the first two Whelen Modified Tour events of the season at the track and had the dominant car for most of the third event before fuel issues late marred the event for him.

Saturday at Stafford Coby showed he and his team are still the team to beat on the half-mile oval.

Coby led the way in the second and final practice for the Whelen Modified Tour in preparation for Sunday’s NAPA Fall Final 150 at Stafford.

Coby set a fast lap of 18.297 seconds (98.377 mph) during the practice.

With two events remaining this season Coby leads the Whelen Modified Tour standings by 13 points over second place Justin Bonsignore.

Coby is looking for his third consecutive Whelen Modified Tour title and fourth in the last five years.

Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y. was second fastest during the practice at 18.390 seconds (98.377 mph).

Ron Silk of Norwalk, who led the first practice of the day, was third fastest in the second at 19.397 seconds (97.842 mph).

Timmy Solomito, who is third in the Whelen Modified Tour standings (42 points behind Coby), was fourth (18.411 seconds, 97.768 mph). Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., was fifth (18.448 seconds, 97.572 mph).

Bonsignore, of Holtsville, N.Y., was sixth in the practice (18.472 seconds, 97.445 mph).
