STAFFORD – Stafford Motor Speedway’s victory lane actually occupies part of the backstretch of the track’s “Mini-Mile’ infield oval.
That Mini-Mile was a place Ben Seitz of Bourne, Mass. some of the formative time of his early racing career.
Friday, 20 years later, Seitz was back on the Mini-Mile, but this time to use the victory lane area for celebration.
Seitz led every lap to win the 60-lap International SuperModified Association feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.
It was the first SuperModified victory at Stafford for the 36-year old Seitz.
“I came here when I was 16, so that’s a while ago,” Seitz said. “I’ve always loved this place. I used to run a Legends car inside this little track here. That’s where I started when I was 16, so this place has always been special to me.”
Timmy Jedrzejek of Independence, Oh. was second and Otto Sitterly of Canajoharie, N.Y. third.
Jedrzejek gave Seitz a run on the final lap, but didn’t have enough off of turn four coming to the checkered flag.
“The car was good,” Seitz said. “We started up front. It’s tough when you lead all 60 [laps]. I didn’t know who was behind us. The car was flawless. … The car’s been really good all season. I’m looking forward to things to come.”
