On July 15 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Xfinity Series Overton’s 200, but it was Berlin’s Ryan Preece who stole the show in finishing second to the Monster Energy Cup Series star in his first start for Joe Gibbs Racing.

And it looks as if Preece has carried the positive momentum to Iowa.

Preece will make the second of two scheduled starts for the Gibbs team at today’s Xfinity Series US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway and he will do it from the pole position.

Preece, a regular and former champion on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and a full-timer in the SK Modified division at Thompson Speedway, scored his first career Xfinity Series pole position in qualifying today at Iowa Speedway.

Preece, with a fast lap of 24.072 seconds, outpaced Kyle Benjamin (24.129 seconds) in qualifying. Benjamin starts second and Daniel Hemric third in today’s event.

Preece is making his 38th career Xfinity Series start today. He qualified sixth at NHMS on July 15, which marked his best qualifying effort in the series to that point. He ran full-time in the series last year for the underfunded Johnny Davis Motorsports team. In his 33 events with the series in 2016 his best starting spot was 12th, which came in the division’s lone visit to NHMS.

    Great win, congratulations!!
How about the current modified drivers these days, huh?!
Presence winning in Xfinity, McKennedy winning in the supers, Santos wins in the USAC series!
Add that to the obvious greatness of guys like Hirschman, Blewett, TC, Pennink, Hossfeld, Emerling and Jankowiak!!
Shame we don’t get to see all these guys on the same track at same time in same race too often. Too many series!!
