  1. Is this place actually going to open? Not fair to the competitors to string them along.

  2. Just Wondering says

Sure looks like someone has a whole lot of splaining to do at the banquet.

  3. I guess this is good and bad news.
Good for racedayct not getting sucked into the vortex of contradictory information and sticking to the credibility of it’s sources. And good news for all those that stuck to their guns insisting that the attorney reference was bogus and clearly showing the best judgement in this case.
The bad news is for we Speedbowl fans that were given a ray of hope only to have in smashed with this story appearing to show the project is still a huge mystery. I don’t get the mixed signals or their benefit but I’m sure this isn’t the final word. On to the banquet.

  4. I’d be building a Thompson or Stafford car if I were a Waterford toilet bowl competitor

  5. darealgoodfella says

    Shawn, nice job. Good work.

  6. darealgoodfella says

I wonder what good ol’ George is thinking about now.

  7. darealgoodfella says

Oh Doug, I so hope that one day you can experience what it is like to be right for once.

  8. darealgoodfella says

Looks like George has been grandstanding!!! LOL!!!! I crack myself up!!!

  9. Tuesday Avena said he has had no discussions recently with anyone from the Speedbowl regarding anything involving a current grandstand project.

Why would he you don’t go to him or any other city attorney with building plans
but know some of you guys can’t understand this.

  10. darealgoodfella says

    Doug?

    Mark Andrews?

  11. Mark Andrews says

I stand by every single thing I’ve said and if im wrong,I will immediately apologize and admit so.the attorney may not have yet spoken to anyone as of this writing and clearly states he would not be the first in line to see or speak to anyone.this is a process and I again insist that the only thing Whitney is guilty of is having no clue how to handle public relations or the media.he is not savy in these matters and has stumbled badly.in the very near future…you will see a new ownership group who Whitney knows well…thats all that needs to be said..see you at the bowl!

  12. darealgoodfella says

    Mark Andrews,

“It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” – Mark Twain

“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t.” – MarkTwain

“The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.” – Winston Churchill

“Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” – Mark Twain

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” – Mark Twain

Stumbled? That ain’t stumbling. George is bumbling.

And again, what would the town attorney have to do with the sale of the speedbowl? Nothing.

    How’s that lease doing?

  13. Viva race fan says

Like l said George is weak . No 1 likes this guy. He’s not a man of his works and alot of people didn’t enjoy working for him . Tried to pay 1/2 t employees last 4 weeks of year. Bet you all wish Bruce was back lol…..

  14. Just another untruth by the management of the Speedbowl. They are slowly destroying what ever credibility they may have had.

After all of my posts explaining my opinion about the subject all I can say is I rest my case.

  15. Hey Mark, Mike who?

  16. Another positive story about the speedbowl by Shawn. smh #pissingcontest

  17. Taking a victory lap humphry? Why not, you deserve it. You more then anyone provided the best analysis and backed up your opinion with solid information that I respected from entry one.
But fans don’t need to be logical and I’m going to continue to be with Mark Andrews as far as the optimistic view goes.
I will continue to take the view that there was nothing to be gained by referring to lawyers when it appears not to be the case. That there is some other dealings going on that caused Whitney to pass on what appears to be incorrect information.
But let’s get past that to the really interesting tidbit brewing that may be the most fun to watch. Racedayct’s reporting twice mentions sources confirming an engineering firm engaged to make repairs once again. Whitney is on record addressing only the new stands. That’s the mystery now I would think. The battle brewing between Racedayct uncovering facts that only it has provided vs the stated intention of the tracks management. Personally if either delivers a season it’s aces with me.
Three days to the banquet. You can cut the tension with a knife.

  18. Longtimetourfan says

Just wondering if it’s possible that George is as much in the dark as everyone else. Could it be that George is being lied to by by bemer and his people. Wouldn’t bemer as the owner and the money behind the project be responsible for hiring an engineering company/builder and securing the permits? I’m just thinking maybe George is being told it’s all in the works…or maybe he is just full it..?

  19. George Whitney via Speed 51
““The company (engineering firm} we are working with said if we can get all this stuff we just talked about done this month with the town, they’ll have no issues in taking the old ones down and having the new ones up and ready so we can open May 5.”
    racedayct
“Multiple sources have indicated that there has been contact by track officials with an engineering company – that formerly had been contracted under previous ownership – in the hopes of making enough repairs to the existing grandstand structure to possibly satisfy town inspectors to allow for another year of use.”
Isn’t this the most compelling story line at this particular moment?

  20. Nice job Shawn!!! As a person who defended George here for several months in many threads. I think we are seeing his true colors. He not only lied to you but speed 51. Way to burn credibility with the very racing media the bowl needs desperately… George needs to go along with Bruce… enough of the dark cloud…Keep up the good work Shawn!!

  21. Doug no victory lap here. You just analyze what it there, sift through the crap, do a little research and go with your gut based on the facts. I respect you but you are reaching again. The towns building official states no new stands no opening day and the conversation included the Speedbowl. The towns attorney says he is aware of the issue so again putting the facts together, I will be willing to bet the ranch the town attorney is supporting the building officials position so as not to allow any liability to the town. The building official also states he is not on board with further repairs to the current structure and again the town attorney I am sure has his back on that position for liability reasons.

I know what we would all like to see happen and that is a 2018 season however, the ball is squarely in the Speedbowls hands and they need to decide to score or fumble it.

  22. The story is negative only because the facts are negative. There is no opinionated spin on this from Shawn. He is reporting confirmed and verified information; more than we’ve had from anywhere else. Thanks to Humphry, we’ve also had some visual info as well. There are some positive rumors floating about, but they are just that; unconfirmed rumors. I’m hoping some of the more positive rumors get confirmed in the near future. Hopefully the banquet will bring some new info.

DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! DING!!!DING!!!

    WE HAVE A WINNNAAHHH!!!!!

Yathink? George, from reports, is a mechanic/farmer. Bemer is a multimillionaire business magnate, owns numerous, varied businesses. Bemer knows how to use people. Amazingly, there are people that think George is in total control because of the alleged lease. At this point, proof of said lease, and terms and conditions, and limits would be nice to see.

Ya’ll need to understand something… George is NOT running the show as far as reconstruction of the speedbowl is concerned. Forget about the lease. George is not running a seven figure reconstruction project. George is the lessee and will not be the one running BIGLY MAJOR capital improvements of the property. Ain’t gonna happen. Nope. Nope, Nope, Nevah. George hasn’t been able to have a meaningful conversation much less demonstrate he’s able to run a seven figure reconstruction project.

So we are back to the court freeze on assets and what can BEMER spend as normal business expenses.

Shawn, if this speedbowl reconstruction is really going on, somewhere in some Court, Bemer (or his companies) petitioned a court for permission/approval to go ahead with the reconstruction. C’mon there, you can find it. And if such a petition does not exist… 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴 It’s all over.

One thing for sure, is that the town has to be fed up with this debacle, and the folks running the NLWS can not be believed.

So what is going on? Are the stands being replaced or being bandaged some more? Even that is not clear. And the town has not been notified of anything, ANYTHING. And the town has made it clear that further bandaging is not an option.

Bemer is the one with the 💰, he’s calling the shots, if the courts allow him to make such expenditures.

But then I have to ask, why would Bemer, being in the predicament he’s in at his age, even bother with a reconstruction? He’s never going to be able to show his face or enjoy the place because people do not want to do business with the NLWS, go to the place that is supposed to be a family oriented entertainment facility, owned by an admitted predator. Bemer and the NLWS are better off if he sells.

I would not be surprised at all if the NLWS is sold. But then, that would be up to the courts to decide and allow.

Shawn, have you tried to talk directly with Bemer?

And get your tickets to the banquet!!!

    🍿

On the funny side, the speedbowl will be releasing the 2018 schedule today.

    What a redirect!!! 😜

  25. Oops just lost Fast Eddie. Sorry to hear that.
Am I reaching humphry. Guilty as charged. That’s what fans do. And this fan says it ain’t over until Whitney sings a tune from the beginning to the end on key with the proper lyrics. Most of you say he can’t carry a tune and can’t remember the words. I’m not buying that at all.
I’m sticking to the fact we don’t know everything, most of everything or even 10% of everything. I don’t even think the renovation thing is over. Hoagland has yet to say unequivocally no because it isn’t unequivocally no. It’s “It’s nothing we’ve discussed” and “I’m not really on board with that.” Everything is still on the table.
I went back to last year as all this unfolded and read the predictions many of us made. Almost to a man the Speedbowl made fools of us that made predictions and bigger fools of those that insisted they couldn’t be wrong. And the beat goes on.

  26. Speedbowl Web Site
“Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2017 Awards Banquet this Saturday at the Mystic Marriott! Looks like a great crowd will be in attendance. See you all then! ”
    Great crowd? Hope so!

  27. Hey Doug, I’m still with you and Mark, trying to be optimistic until it’s proven to be hopeless. There were some comments from implying that Shawn had a purposeful negative spin on this story. I was trying to clarify that it’s the facts that are negative, not the reporter. When it comes to racing, I’m always a “glass half full” guy!!

  28. Doug you are the optimist and I am the pessimist so we will just have to agree to disagree on this issue. The only people that have articulated the truth so far are the town officials. Can’t say that about the other camp…….

  29. darealgoodfella says

Hey, I want the speedbowl to thrive, it could be a great place eventually, someday, maybe, if it can outrun its own history.

    Make the Speedbowl Great Again!!!!!

But when all the news that comes out is untruths, that is then debunked, and there’s nothing truthful to look forward to, it is what is as it is done by their own hands. Bigly sad.

  30. darealgoodfella says

    Where is everybody today?

Thought this would be up to 200 posts by now.

Looking forward to how Doug will spin this as great news, further proof confirming the speedbowl will open as advertised.

  31. Good point Doug but if things work in Waterford like they do where I live then the bowl will have to attend town meeting then the planning board holds a ” special” meeting then things get dragged out. Just can’t see it happening in 3 months and 5 days

  32. sour grapes of wrath says
