STAFFORD – Jon McKennedy led the speed charts overall between two NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practices Saturday at Stafford Motor Speedway in preparation for Sunday’s NAPA Spring Sizzler 200.
McKennedy toured the half-mile Stafford oval with a fast lap of 17.812 seconds in the second practice session.
McKennedy, of Chelmsford, Mass., won the season opening Whelen Modified Tour event at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway on March 17.
Chase Dowling of Roxbury, who is tied for second in the standings, was second fastest overall with a fast lap of 17.838 seconds in the first session.
Points leader Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. was third on the charts with a fast lap of 17.852, which came in the second session.
Rob Summers of Manchester, with a time of 17.897 in the second session, was fourth.
Doug Coby, who is looking for his fifth consecutive series title in 2018 and sixth title overall, was fifth during practice at 17.945 in the first session.
Ryan Preece, Timmy Solomito, Ron Silk, Craig Lutz and Rowan Pennink rounded out fifth through tenth respectively overall between the two sessions.
